What it covers

Eight areas that decide whether marketing pays

The grader scores the capabilities that separate marketing that compounds from marketing that just spends. Each area has one question and a clear 0–3 scale.

Strategy

A written plan with segments, proposition, priorities and budget that someone senior owns.

Positioning

A clear, shared answer to 'why you, why now' the whole team uses consistently.

Measurement

Cost per qualified enquiry by channel — the number that decides where budget goes.

Paid channels

Search and social ads managed against cost per qualified lead, not clicks.

Search visibility

Ranking and being cited for the commercial terms buyers use — including AI search.

CRM & systems

A CRM that records outcomes honestly and automates the routine follow-up.

Sales & marketing alignment

A shared definition of qualified, agreed response times and joint reporting.

AI readiness

Practical AI workflows that return hours, with accuracy and brand guardrails.

Questions

Questions about the Maturity Grader

What is a marketing maturity assessment and why does it matter?
A marketing maturity assessment scores how well-developed your marketing is across the capabilities that actually drive revenue — strategy, positioning, measurement, paid channels, search visibility, CRM, sales-marketing alignment and AI readiness. It matters because most SME marketing fails in predictable places: no written strategy, no cost-per-lead measurement, or a CRM that doesn't report honestly. Grading those areas tells you exactly where the next pound of effort and budget will return the most, rather than spreading spend evenly across everything.
How is the Marketing Maturity Grader different from the free Health Check?
The Health Check is a quick two-minute teaser across four dimensions with on-page results. The Maturity Grader is the deeper version: eight capability areas, a personalised multi-page PDF action plan with your scores, your two priority gaps and a prioritised action list you can hand to your team. It's built for SME leaders who want a documented starting point rather than a headline number.
Do I get a report, and what do you do with my details?
Yes — when you enter your name and work email you receive a branded PDF action plan by email, with an instant download link too. Your details are used to send the report and to notify me so I can follow up once. There is no automated drip sequence and no sales call unless you book one. You can read the privacy approach on the Resources page.
Which businesses is the grader built for?
It's built for B2B, industrial, retail and SaaS SMEs — businesses with a considered purchase and a sales cycle rather than pure consumer impulse buying. The eight areas reflect where marketing leadership makes the biggest difference at the £2m–£20m turnover stage, whether you have no marketing resource, a junior marketer, an agency or an in-house team missing a strategic lead.
Do you work with small businesses and sole traders?
Yes. MCG offers agency-style delivery with the flexibility of working directly with a freelance marketer. You do not need a marketing department or a large turnover to start. A website rebuild, a focused campaign or practical advice can be a standalone piece of work.
How much is a full website rebuild?
The standard website rebuild is £1,000 fixed for up to 40 pages, including structure, design, core page copy, technical SEO, enquiry forms and launch. Care is optional at £100 a month. Ecommerce, bespoke applications, complex integrations and third-party costs are quoted separately before work starts.
Can I hire you for a one-off project?
Yes. You can book a website rebuild, an SEO project, campaign work or a marketing review without taking an ongoing retainer. We agree the work and the price in writing first. Ongoing support is available if you need it afterwards.
Who will actually do the work?
You work directly with Samuel McGarrigle, founder of MCG Growth Marketing, with an MSc in Digital Marketing Management and MCIM membership. Samuel plans and delivers the work, and can work alongside your existing team or suppliers when needed.
Where do you work?
MCG is based in Cheshire and works with businesses across Staffordshire, Shropshire and the wider North West, with remote support available UK-wide.
