SuperDiss

Positioning, pricing and launch marketing

How do you launch an AI education product without being mistaken for cheating?

Lead with what the product refuses to do. SuperDiss will not write a dissertation, it teaches the student to write one, and that refusal is the first thing you read. Then prove it with a free-forever core, price the paid tier low enough to be an easy yes, and answer the questions students already search.

What was actually in the way

Every engagement starts with a commercial problem rather than a channel problem.

01

Challenge

An AI dissertation supervisor launching into the most suspicious category in education. Every competitor in the space is assumed to be an essay mill, so the product had to be sold on integrity before it could be sold on usefulness — and 'AI for students' explains the technology, not the reason to pay.

02

Approach

Made the refusal the proposition: SuperDiss will not write the dissertation, it teaches the student to. Built the story around the writing arc students recognise — write it down, write it out, write it up — then priced a free-forever core with a £9.99/month student tier, and structured the learning centre and free workbook so the search demand around research questions, gaps, methodology and vivas has somewhere to land.

The decisions

The calls that changed the outcome

Not a task list — the small number of decisions the rest of the work followed from.

  1. Sell the refusal, not the AI

In a category where every tool is suspected of being an essay mill, 'we will not write it for you' is a stronger opening than any feature list. It answers the objection before the student — or their university — raises it, and it is the one claim a writing tool cannot copy.

  2. A free core, not a free trial

The idea canvas, question builder, literature lab and methodology tools stay free forever. They do the convincing. The £9.99/month tier sells what a student only wants once they are committed: unlimited supervision, the viva simulator and the health dashboard, opened by a 7-day trial.

  3. Content shaped by the writing arc

Write it down, write it out, write it up. Sixteen plain-English guides and a printable 14-stage workbook sit against the stages students search for — research questions, research gaps, literature reviews, methodology, coding data, the viva — with no email wall in front of them.

When a category is distrusted, the fastest route to trust is to publish the limit you have placed on yourself and let a genuinely useful free tier prove it.

In their words

SuperDiss on the work

Everyone assumes an AI dissertation tool is cheating, so that objection had to be answered on the first screen. Sam turned the thing we refuse to do into the reason to trust us, and gave students a free version good enough to prove it.

Questions

SuperDiss: common questions

What was the brief for SuperDiss?
Launch an online dissertation supervisor into a category students and universities are right to be suspicious of: decide the position, price it, and build a launch site and content library that earn trust before they ask for a subscription.
Why lead with what the product will not do?
Because the first question anyone asks an AI study tool is whether using it counts as cheating. Answering that in the opening line converts far better than a feature list, and the refusal is a claim an essay-writing tool structurally cannot make.
Why a free-forever tier rather than a trial alone?
The free tools are the proof. A student can build a research question and map their literature without paying, which demonstrates the supervision is real. The £9.99/month tier then sells the things that only matter once they are committed — unlimited sessions, the viva simulator and progress tracking.
How does an education product win search?
By answering the stages of the work rather than naming the product. The guides and the workbook target research questions, research gaps, literature reviews, methodology, analysis and viva preparation, which is what students type long before they look for a tool.
