Wishly
Positioning, offer design and launch marketing
How do you launch an AI website builder when every competitor promises the same thing?
Give away the moment of value and sell what happens next. Wishly's free build puts a live website on screen in minutes, so nobody has to be convinced it works. The proposition then moves to the Wishly Brain — an assistant trained on that business which answers visitor questions and turns the conversation into an enquiry — because no page generator ships that.

What was actually in the way
Every engagement starts with a commercial problem rather than a channel problem.
Challenge
An AI website builder launching into a category where every competitor makes the same promise — describe a site, watch it appear. 'Build a website with AI' is now table stakes, so the product needed a reason to exist that a template generator could not claim, and small businesses needed to understand what they were getting before signing up to anything.
Approach
Led with the free build itself: describe the business, watch the site appear in minutes, change anything by asking. Then made the differentiator the second act — the Wishly Brain, an assistant trained on the business that answers visitor questions in its own words and turns those conversations into enquiries. Structured the story as build, brain, publish, grow, with data isolation and 'honest features' stated plainly to answer the trust objection AI products meet first.
What changed commercially
Published client facts and agreed scope markers, read as marketing outcomes. No modelled or estimated figures.

A launch proposition that gives away the moment of value — a live website in minutes, free to start — and sells the thing no builder ships by default: a website that talks to visitors and captures leads from the conversation.
The calls that changed the outcome
Not a task list — the small number of decisions the rest of the work followed from.
- 01
Lead with the free build, not the technology
Small businesses do not want to read about AI, they want to see their website. The opening act is a demonstration: type what you want, watch it appear, change anything by asking. Starting free removes the only real barrier, and the built site does the selling.
- 02
Make the Brain the differentiator
Every builder can generate pages, so pages cannot be the argument. Positioning the Wishly Brain as a second act — a website that talks to visitors in the business's own words and captures leads from those conversations — moves the product out of the builder comparison entirely.
- 03
Answer the AI trust objection in plain terms
Isolated Brains, access rules enforced in the database, no training of shared models on private business information, and features described honestly rather than implied. Stated plainly, because suspicion about what an AI product does with your data is the first thing a buyer thinks and the last thing most builders address.
When a category's headline promise has become table stakes, give it away free and build the proposition on the thing that happens after the promise is kept.
Wishly on the work
“Every AI builder says it can make you a website, so leading on that was never going to work on its own. Sam made the free build the hook and the Brain the reason to stay — a site that answers questions and brings us leads is a different product to a page generator.”
